It Doesn’t Hurt to be Lucky

Prospective print clients sometimes ask if we charge extra for post processing their digital files to make them print better. We tell them that if all that is needed is a to tweak the brightness, contrast, upsize the digital file, retouch the overlooked sensor dust or some other simple task then there is no extra charge.

One print client though had a special request. He wanted to know if we could create special border effects for his digital files.

He showed me a sample and I realized that these were the same border effects that I learned to do when I was still using Adobe Photoshop 5.5 (yes, that long ago).

I’ve forgotten how to create the border effect that he wanted. I soon found myself scrounging around for my old post processing books, doing online research and checking out the price software.

I checked my email inbox and saw noticed that I overlooked an email from On1 Software. It turned out that On1 was giving away for free for a limited time the On1 Effects 10.5 software.

I checked it out and saw that I could use it to produce borders just like what my client wanted. I downloaded it today and I’ve been experimenting with it for the past half hour. The software isn’t blazing fast but it will do a job. I can’t complain since it’s free legal software.

Thank you On1! You made my life easier!
