I’ve been doing product shots lately. They’re simple but complicated product shots. The shoot is simple in the sense that not a lot of gear is needed. My camera gear, accessories and Dell mobile workstation all fit in my Lowepro Vertex 200AW backpack. The complicated part is getting all of the shots to look the same in terms of camera and product angle.
There was an old school trick that we used when film cameras ruled. We would use masking tape to mark the position of the product, tripod and everything else. What needed to be secured was held in place using Gaffer tape.
Thus, I have had one roll of each of masking tape and Gaffer tape hanging from the outside of my Lowepro for the past two weeks.
I know that it doesn’t look neat the way I have two rolls of tape swaying from the outside of my work bag. But, in my opinion, a neat work bag means that whoever owns the bag doesn’t have any work to do.
I’m not messy. I’m just busy.
