Joey Reyna is an old friend. I’m actually the godparent of one of his children. He approached us a few months ago with the intention of getting a printer for his photography studio business in Tacloban City.
Joey shared that there isn’t a print supplier in his city that can produce quality prints bigger than 8”x10”. He sometimes needs to print images on canvas. But it takes four days for him to deliver since he has to email the digital file for printing to Manila and for the canvas print to be sent to him.
He visited us in ShutterMaster Pro QC a few months ago with the intention of getting an inkjet printer with the intention of using it for his own needs as well as providing a printing service for other photographers in his area.
We sat down with him over coffee and gave him advice regarding inkjet printers and our experience using Ilford papers and canvas.
Joey bought a Canon large format inkjet printer and Ilford paper and canvas from ShutterMaster Pro and wanted me to train his staff in color management and large format inkjet printing.
I flew to Tacloban City Thursday last week. Joey fetched me from the airport and we had breakfast.
Joey wanted to bring me to my hotel room to drop off my luggage before going to his studio to meet with his staff for their training session. I said that my hotel room was just a place where I would sleep before leaving the next day. It would be best if we proceeded straight to his studio.
The day was spent teaching about color management controls, soft proofing, custom ICC printer profiles, how having a repeatable and standardized print workflow translates to quality prints and a few more other topics.
Each staff member was asked to post process and print several images individually in front of me.
The whole training session was fully documented using photos, written notes and video footage for Joey and his staff to refer to in the event that they needed clarification regarding what they needed to do.
I arrived in Tacloban City that day at 7am and we finished our training session around 9pm of the same day.
Congratulations to Joey. All the best with your new printing business!
