One day, a prospective print client walked into the showroom of ShutterMaster Pro QC. He introduced himself as Alvin Lee and wanted to try out our printing service. We printed a couple of his images using Ilford Galerie Prestige Gold Fibre Silk paper for him to evaluate our print quality.
He then brought out a print folio of his personal images. It turned out those prints were printed that same day at a commercial one hour photo lab. He asked why our prints had more shadow and highlight detail compared to what he got from the commercial photo lab.
We explained to him about the printer and the different kind of papers and canvas that we used and how it allowed us to produce quality prints.
He decided on the spot to have his whole folio reprinted by us and what began as a business relationship eventually became one based on friendship and trust.
Alvin soon began to regularly visit ShutterMaster Pro QC to print his latest images.
His habit of regularly visiting us to print has gone on for more than a year.
Alvin started to contemplate the thought of showcasing his printed work for other people to appreciate.
All of the hard work of shooting and printing his images has finally paid off. Alvin has an ongoing portfolio exhibit of his work at Crucible Gallery (4/L Building A, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City) that runs from March 30 to April 9, 2017. All images were printed using Ilford Galerie Prestige Gold Fibre Silk and Smooth Cotton Rag paper.
The question that we normally pose to other photographers is of what use are their digital images stored on a hard drive if no one else can see them? Their best work isn’t truly appreciated if it is only seen on social media. Photographers are encouraged to print their work for it to be seen and fully appreciated by other people.
The question that we once asked Alvin was what was he going to do with all of the prints that he had amassed from all of our printing session?
Alvin gave us an elegant response with his ongoing exhibit.
We know that the opening night of his exhibit was successful because Alvin showed up the following morning at ShutterMaster Pro QC. He needed to fulfill print orders and actually sold out print editions of some of his work.
Congratulations Alvin and all the best.
